This two bedroom, two bathroom duplex in the heart of Ashgrove had outgrown its young family. So, after a short stint as a well cared for rental property, this home was transformed by the Mint Homes & Renovation team with a full property makeover renovation, ready for the sales market. A modern, yet classic style was chosen to suit the 1920s era of the original home.
The kitchen was completely redesigned to incorporate an island bench with lots of drawers, bespoke concrete bench tops, and a built in wall mounted bank for the oven and microwave. The clean white of the 2-pac finish of the cabinetry contrasts wonderfully with the teal tiled splash-back, and the grey of the concrete bench tops.
The original entry of the home was closed in and converted into a spacious walk in pantry, and the tired timber French doors were replaced with a wider opening for new aluminium sliding stacker bifold doors. Just outside the doors, adjacent to the new decked pergola area, raised garden beds were built to provide an easy access kitchen garden full of herbs and other produce.
The downstairs laundry was increased in size and the ceiling height raised. New tiles were laid on the walls and floor, whilst new cabinetry and bench tops were installed to dramatically increase the storage space for this home. The separate adjacent shed/studio building was dramatically improved by turning it into a large home office space, perfect for the those now working from home, or needing additional work space for other hobbies. A timber deck was constructed here to provide a seamless transition from the main home to the home office, whilst also providing a peaceful space for relaxing and entertaining, and easy access to the terraced backyard.
Both the ensuite and main bathrooms needed renovations. In the main bathroom, the old ugly shower tray was replaced with on trend hexagonal mosaic tiles, a new white vanity unit and mirror were installed, along with new bathroom fittings. As a tribute to the 1920s home, a vintage opaque glass pendant light was installed as a feature piece in the main bathroom. The ensuite bathroom vanity unit, bathroom fittings, and mirror were also updated with modern pieces more suited to the renovated space. Bespoke recycled timber shelves were also installed above the toilet suite for additional storage.
New louvre windows were installed in the lounge room to let even more light and fresh air in, and clean, bright paintwork was applied throughout. To complete the makeover for this now gorgeous home, the original wide timber floorboards were brought back to life with fresh sanding and polishing work.
