Inground Pool & Deck in Toowong, Brisbane
The project was to build & install a semi-inground pool with a surrounding deck in a backyard of a family home in Toowong, Brisbane.
The pool was a DIY kit pool that could be installed either in-ground or above ground. The original plans had the pool in the centre of the yard, with the surrounding deck, straddling a retaining wall. Unfortunately, it was discovered that the house sewer line ran through where the pool was to be installed, so the decision was made to move the location of the installation. It was also decided, due to fence heights, to install the pool further in ground than was previously planned. This made a lot of sense and meant the deck would be resting on the existing ground.
When it came time to start the project, a small investigation hole revealed a large amount of building waste had been dumped into the yard when a major renovation had been completed on the house in the ’80s – his included sheets of asbestos. This meant we had to enlist the help of a specialist asbestos team to do the excavation and remove the waste from the property.
From sewer lines through the backyard to buried sheets of asbestos, this project took a few more turns than originally anticipated, but has turned out a treat for the owners and their family.
